CIGARETTE TAXES GOING TO $4.35 PER PACK JULY 1, 2010

As of Thursday, July 1, 2010, the cigarette tax in New York State will be the highest in the United States, increasing by $1.60 a pack, from $2.75 to $4.35 per pack. In New York City, where there is an additional city tax, the total state and local excise tax on cigarettes will amount to $5.85. per pack.
Although thousands of Greene County people have kicked the habit over the years, nearly 25% of adults still smoke, over 9,000 people.
But, more than three quarters of smokers want to quit. If you're still a smoker, now is the time to try and quit.
