REACHING MENTAL HEALTH
Counseling in the Primary Care Office
The Greene County Rural Health Network started an innovative program, with the Greene County Behavioral Wellness Center, that makes obtaining mental health services in Greene county easier for you and your family .
The “Reaching Mental Health“ program places mental health counselors right at the primary care practitioner’s offices. You have convenient access to a trained mental health counselor at the same time you see your health provider. It also enables mental and physical health professionals to collaborate to give you comprehensive care.
The Reaching Mental Health program currently has several health providers participating and there are plans to expand this service in the future.
Most likely you won’t need any counseling, but if you do, then you can get it right at your health provider’s office. Click here to read more about the Reaching Mental Health program.

UPDATED: STATE CIGARETTE TAXES ARE $5.36 PER PACK
IF YOU'RE A SMOKER, NOW'S THE TIME TO QUIT
The cigarette tax in New York State is now $4.35 per pack, and the Federal Government adds another $1.01 for a total tax of $5.86 per pack.
Although thousands of Greene County people have kicked the habit over the years, nearly 25% of adults still smoke, over 9,000 people.
But, more than three quarters of smokers want to quit. If you're still a smoker, now is the time to try and quit.
See Your Doctor: Ask your primary care doctor for help. Doctors know your health history, they manage your care, and most likely have helped many of their patients quit smoking. Also, many insurance plans and Medicaid will reimburse your doctor to help you quit smoking.
A free 2- week supply of nicotine patches, gum, or lozenges are available from the State of New York. Call the NYS Smoker's Quitline at 1-866-697-8487 or go to www.nysmokefree.com. Many insurance plans cover various types of medications to help you.
Cessation counseling, strategies for quitting, and coping tips from NYS Smoker’s Quitline. Again, call the Smoker's Quitline at 1-866-697-8487 or go to www.nysmokefree.com
