Dining out at restaurants can be a difficult task when trying to maintain a healthy weight since the portions are controlled by the chef. This doesn’t always have to be the case! Take the initiative and ask the server which menu items are the healther options. Find out how large the serving size is and ask for a smaller, appetizer-sized serving instead.
Learning how to measure the perfect portion is important when it comes to maintaining a healthy weight. Having a visual reference for proper portion sizes is useful for when you don’t have the time or equipment necessary for proper portion measuring.
“Just Ask Us!” Restaurant Program
The Healthy Weight Initiative is pleased to announce that Greene County is the newest member of the “Just Ask Us” Restaurant program! This program was initiated to educate restaurant customers about the willingness of restaurants to modify recipes and portions to help customers follow a healthy diet. Many restaurants have always been willing to provide this service to customers, but diners have not been aware of this convenience. “Just Ask Us” will allow customers to realize that they can ask for basic modifications like sauce/dressing on the side, no salt added, half the cheese, etc. Once they realize that this is available, they may choose to eat out more often and patronize restaurants that participate in this program.
The Healthy Weight Initiative is providing window decals and server buttons to participating restaurants. If you are a restaurateur who is interested in participating in this free program, please contact:
